One Drop Music & Spirit Revolution band present the “Handcraft Riddim”
French Reggae band Spirit Revolution teams up with One Drop Music to release a various artist compilation entitled the “Handcraft Riddim”. In these times when the digital music is taking over it always feels good to hear some music made of real live instruments. The “Handcraft Riddim” is a good example. It has a good balance between traditional instruments used in Reggae music and modern sounds like synth strings and sine wave synth.
Musically speaking, it sounds sweet and mellow with a touch of nostalgia. The electric guitar and the organs adds up to the nostalgic side of the riddim. Over this Nu Roots riddim, Spirit Revolution and One Drop Music have voiced a decent selection of artists including Chuck Fender, Exco Levi and Ilements among others.
The topics artists have chosen to sing about on the “Handcraft Riddim” are rather classic in Reggae music. Chuck Fender delivers a serious song concerning violence including child molestation and reminds us that good will always prevail over evil. Exco Levi is concerned about love and wants clear answers about his interrogation. Because, like Bob Marley, he does not “want to wait in vain for (your) love”. Elements recorded a deep track about Rastafari movement and getting away from the western cultured way too anchored into the babylonian system.
Overall it’s a good Modern Roots various-artist compilation. It’s fairly well composed and produced. It features tracks about serious topics yet positive perfect by respectable artists. It probably could have sounded better with better backing vocals/harmonies arrangements. Nevertheless, you should take a listen and let us know what you think of it. Share and comment.
