Rhythm Streetz #7 – Istanbul and Tropical (Purple Skunk)

# 07 - Istanbul And Tropical Riddims CD (Front Cover)

Volume 7/10 – Rhythm Streetz #7: “Istanbul Riddim and Tropical Riddim,” produced by Purple Skunk, released in 2006

Istanbul Riddim

The “Istanbul Riddim”, produced by Wayne Morris alongside Donovan ‘Vendetta’ Bennett, Paul ‘Wrongmove’ Crossdale & Donald ‘Bassie’ Dennis for Purple Skunk Records, is the 7th installment of the Rhythm Streetz Series.

It’s one of my favorite One Drop Reggae riddim albums of the mid-2000’s. It’s a really sweet riddim with a tremendous muted guitar riff syncopated with a discrete bass line that keeps you rocking. In the chorus, a delicate guitar lead adds up to its overall mellowness.

It features tracks from Bounty Killer, Wayne Wonder, Fantan Mojah, Natural Black, Vybz Kartel, and more. Every song sounds good on this riddim but if you only had to check one track, I would recommend you “What Will It Take” by Jah Cure. His voice truly sounds in phase with the riddim. “Dying for a Cure” performed by Wayne Marshall & Alaine is another great cut on the “Istanbul”. The duo exposes the issue of unprotected sex and its consequences.

For those who are not into love songs, “Marijuana” by TOK is a sweet ganja anthem you could also check.

Tropical Riddim

The “Tropical Riddim” was produced by Wayne ‘DJ Wayne’ Morris for Purple Skunk. I personally prefer the “Istanbul Riddim” because it sounds sweeter. However, it is a pretty nice riddim too. It also features Capleton, Vybz Kartel, Wayne Marshall, Ras Myrdak, and more. You may click here to view the full track list.
