In 2003, Troy “Troyton” Rami produced the “Surprise Riddim,” for Black Shadow Records.

The various-artist compilation features Bounty Killer, Beenie Man, Mr. Vegas, Mad Cobra, Elephant Man, and many more (View full track list).

Overall, it’s a pretty good riddim. The main melody of the string synth layer carries a sort of dark contemplative atmosphere. Despite the repetitive use of a pitched “hey sample” almost throughout the whole beat, it doesn’t sound too annoying, thanks to the good performances of the deejays.
