Gappy Ranks – Way Back Then

Art Cover - Gappy Ranks - Way Back Then

Gappy Ranks sings about “Way Back Then”

Gappy Ranks expresses his affection for the good old days in the Reggae song “Way Back Then”.  A freestyle voiced on the “Barb Wire Riddim”, made famous by Nora Dean in 1969. He introduces the track with a short conversation between the artist who’s recording a track in the booth and his engineer I suppose, since we only hear Gappy. He finishes this intro saying to the other guy “Sorry, we come from a different time.”

It seems that the message of this track is deeper than just “It was better back then”. The artist exposes how certain issues have gotten worse like the increasing violence and poverty. It’s a nice track with a strong old school vibe. “Music neva fake back then”.
