Music Is My Occupation #Throwback

This week, I’ll tell you why “Music Is My Occupation” #Throwback

Music takes an important place in my life and it probably does in yours as well if you are a reader of Jamworld876. I could almost say that “music is my occupation” and my life would have been drastically different and less interesting without it I guess. But, that’s not really the story I wanted to share with you… I usually try to post the #throwback on Thursdays (#ThrowbackThursday) and/or Fridays (#FlashbackFriday) but I didn’t have time. So here is what I wanted to share with you:

The Skatalistes – Music Is My Occupation

So, while I was chilling on Friday night, I’ve heard the song “Ring Of Fire” made famous by Johnny Cash in 1963 being played on TV. The melody of the horns in the intro suddenly struck me and I thought “Wait, I THINK I KNOW THIS RIDDIM!” I then found out that legendary Jamaican SKA band, The Skatalites, had sort of covered that song of Johnny Cash in their single “Music Is My Occupation”, released in 1967.

The horn section heard in the introduction of the riddim sounds quite characteristic and unforgettable. Besides, it has a sort of Western feeling to it. A couple of year later, the great King Tubby made a dub version of this riddim entitled “Dub Is My Occupation” featured on the album “Dub Like Dirt”.

Listen to these songs, let me know what you think of it. You can post a comment below and tell us whether or not you could consider that ‘music is your occupation’ too. If you would like to get back a couple of old school rid dims, do not hesitate to message us on the chat box. Share and comment if you like it.
