Throwback in loving memory of Jimmy Riley

Special Throwback in loving memory of Jimmy Riley

Reggae artist Jimmy Riley passed away on Wednesday, after battling against cancer for several years. #FuckCancer. Therefore, I thought I would dedicate this week’s throwback to this legend of Reggae music with a 10-track compilation I’ve just put together.

Before Jimmy Riley started singing solo, he was part of a couple Rocksteady bands. He was the lead singer of The Sensations. During the 60’s, after the group had passed a successful audition for Duke Reid, they recorded hits such as “Everyday Is Just A Holiday” and “Those Guys”In 1967, he left The Sensations and joined in The Uniques, alongside his longtime-friend Slim Smith and Lloyd Charmers.

As a solo artist, Jimmy first recorded for Bunny Lee. Then, he decided to produce his own music and eventually produced for other artists too. Some of his most notable acts are single “Give Thanks & Praise” and “Tell The Youths The Truth”.

During the late 80’s, Jimmy put his career on hold and moved to Miami. He returned to Jamaica about a decade later. When his son, Tarrus Riley, has got into his father’s footsteps it kind of gave a boost to Jimmy‘s career. They collaborated and performed on stage together a few times. Now that Jimmy Riley’s gone, his legacy might live on with the wonderful music he’s produce through all these years.
