Throwback of the Week: Tribute to Coxsone

Sir Coxsone Dodd

#ThursdayThrowback – Special Edition: Studio 1 in Tribute to Coxsone

Ten years ago Reggae music pioneer Clement “Sir Coxsone” Dodd passed away. Last Sunday, it would have been his 82th earth strong. So I thought we owed him some kind of tribute by dedicating him this #ThrowbackThursday.

Legendary Sir Coxsone, born Clement Seymour Dodd, was the founder of Studio One. He was one of most influential figure in the development of Reggae music in Jamaica during the lat 1960’s and 1970’s. Coxsone has produced some of the greatest, if not the best, voices of Jamaica. Among the large list of artists he has worked with throughout his left, there were bands such as The Gladiators, The Skatalites and Burning Spear. And also solo artists like Dawn Penn, Horace Andy, Dennis Brown, and many more.

Thanks to him, Bob Marley and The Wailers have got their first breakthrough with the release of their debut album “The Wailing Wailers.” He is also at the origin of numerous masterpieces such as College Rock Riddim, Heavenless Riddim, Going Home Riddim, Answer / Never Let Go Riddim and many more.

Let the sweet sound of Reggae music transport you to higher grounds with this a 61-track pack of songs from Studio 1.
