Last week, Inna de Yard performed for no less than 2 hours at Cabaret Sauvage in Paris, on Wednesday 5th, July 2023. The show was sold out, like their previous show also held in the Cabaret Sauvage the day before.
The Jamaican band gathered on stage Cedric Myton, Winston McAnuff, Keith & Tex, Steve Newland, and Kush McAnuff on lead vocals.
A family affair
They opened the show altogether with “Africa,” off their latest album “Family Affair,” released on June 2nd, 2023. Then, Winston McAnuff and Cedric Myton came forward to perform “Come Away,” led by Kush McAnuff, who was also beating the thunder bass drum.
Throughout the show, the band’s leaders took turns stepping forward to deliver their individual vocal performances before returning to the nyahbinghi drums. Keith & Tex performed timeless classic “Stop That Train,” followed by Steve Newland who sung his cover of Bob Marley‘s “Touch Me.” During his performance, he briefly left the stage, disappearing into the crowd. Winston McAnuff then came back to the spotlight to perform “Sun Is Setting In The Sea.”
Later on, Kiddus I took the microphone to perform “Graduation from Zion,” a song that propelled him to fame through his appearance in the iconic Jamaican movie “Rockers.” Unexpectedly, Johnny Osbourne made a guest appearance and joined the band to perform a revisited version of his hit song “Truth & Rights,” which is also featured on their latest album. The crowd’s excitement was palpable, leading Osbourne to pull up the song. Before leaving the stage, he took the opportunity to promote his upcoming concert at Cabaret Sauvage on July 29th.
As the show reached its conclusion, the mood started to mellow. Kiddus I paid tribute to Edith Piaf with his rendition of “If You Love Me.” In the absence of Ken Boothe, Steve Newland performed “Let The Water Run Dry,” during which the entire audience joined in singing along. Finally, Winston McAnuff closed the show with “Malcolm X,” accompanied by an accordionist.
Tribute to Scratch
However, even after the band left the stage, the crowd’s applause persisted, as they wanted some more. In response to their fervent requests, Inna de Yard returned for an encore. Keith Rowe initiated it with a beautiful rendition of “Groovy Situation” on acoustic guitar in loving memory of Lee “Scratch” Perry. Cedric Myton then came back to sing the Congos’ classic “Fisherman,” another song also produced by the late Scratch.
