The Vienna-based singer and songwriter Deliman geared up with the young Hip-Hop Producer, Beatmaker & DJ Phil Chronics in collaboration with another Beatmaker & DJ Chiko and the Reggae Backing-Band Fireman Crew for a new EP ‘Still Blazing’, released on January 10th, through bandcamp. Crafted in a lab of a propulsive unit from Austria, Union World Music, this socially-conscious, gritty, and romantic EP packs a punch that will become reggae music’s newest repeat offender. ‘Still Blazing’ is collated by 5 solid tracks and serves as an amalgamation of Reggae and Hip-Hop.
Its opener and title track ‘Still Blazing’ sports a roots riddim embellished by dub delay effects and is a thrashing tune that swings its lyrical hammer against the ill-wishers. “I’m still blazing I will always be around/My enemies and foes will never see me going down.” This tour de force is marked by neat songwriting and ultra smooth delivery.
Next up is ‘Mary Jane:’ “Always lifts me up when I’m feeling down/Mary J, I can’t live without u.” This tune elicits a personification technique that emits an uncanny resemblance to 2Pac’s legendary song ‘Me & My Girlfriend.’ This song definitely makes for a fluid listen and is well put together.
It’s ushered by a nod-aholic ‘Kill Another Sound’. This song introduced by the same line as Super Cat’s intro of the song ‘Sandokan’ is an allusion to a Sound Clash. It’s a reggae-hip-hop-crossover that dons a groovy brass section.
‘Living in Fear’ is underpinned with a social-conscious message that Deliman wants to impart the listeners. “So many children are living in fear/Tell me who’s gonna help them/We just can’t keep living this way coz too much brothers run down di lane/We gonna keep on fighting.” Knitted together by the horn section that is very prominent in the song and some percussions in the back, there’s also a tinge of a quite jazzy tenor sax. He makes a sterling effort to sing about today’s struggles—from violence, to corruption to everyday life in general.
The closer of the EP, ‘Here We Go Again’ is a seamless reggae hip-hop balance, and Deliman manages to ride smoothly over the beats. “I’m ready to blaze di mic once again/I’m a warrior fighting for a Jah Jah army/I’m come here to spread the vibes from coast to coast.” Without a doubt, lyrics of this song succeed at stimulating the mind, and ultimately achieve the desired goal: cross-genre experimentation, both lyrically and musically.
To sum it up, Deliman succeeded at blending Hip-Hop and Reggae into its own unique entity. So, what are you waiting for? Don’t miss the opportunity! Get your copy and enjoy the new reggae EP ‘Still Blazing’ from the very talented Deliman and the label, Union World Music.
